Zainab Sheriff has challenged her conviction for incitement and threatening remarks at the High Court, where her appeal hearing continued today before Hon. Justice Mark Ngegba.

Through her Defence Counsel, Roland Wright, Sheriff argued that the proceedings at the Magistrate’s Court were fundamentally flawed and should be declared a nullity. The defence maintained that the interview at the centre of the case was conducted privately during a political rally and was not published by Sheriff herself.

Her legal team further argued that no complainant or alleged victim had come forward, stressing that the prosecution’s case is based solely on the testimony of police officers who reportedly viewed the material online.

Sheriff also challenged the legality of the summary trial, with her counsel asserting that her consent had not been obtained as required under the law for incitement-related offences. The defence further contended that the trial court relied on a defective charge and non-binding legal authorities in reaching its decision.

She is now asking the High Court to quash both her conviction and sentence, describing the trial as procedurally defective and unsupported by credible evidence.

The matter has been adjourned to July 16, 2026, when both the defence and prosecution will continue their arguments before Justice Ngegba.
