Sierra Leone’s First Lady and President of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), Fatima Maada Bio, has made a powerful call to action for the Sierra Leonean diaspora, emphasizing their crucial role in driving national progress.

Speaking following her participation in the Sierra Leone–Canada Trade, Investment, and Cultural Show in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The First Lady highlighted the immense potential of strategic international partnerships and diaspora engagement.

“Meeting fellow Sierra Leoneans and international partners reaffirmed my belief that our greatest strength is our people. As First Lady and President of OAFLAD, I remain committed to advancing human capital development and healthcare, recognizing that investing in our women and youth is the foundation of national progress.”  She stated

First Lady Fatima Bio added that the engagement in Alberta highlighted the vital role of the diaspora in Sierra Leone’s development. She further noted that “We came not only to speak but to listen, and to strengthen partnerships that will encourage investment, innovation, and collaboration in key sectors such as technology, agriculture, and commerce.”

Concluding her address, the First Lady urged all Sierra Leoneans residing in Canada to remain actively involved in the ongoing transformation of their home country.

“Together, we can build a stronger, more prosperous Sierra Leone,” she noted, expressing deep gratitude to the event’s organizers and participants for orchestrating a successful and impactful exhibition.
