The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Kamakwie Division, under the leadership of the Local Unit Commander (LUC), Superintendent John S. Koroma, successfully mediated a dispute between the Regent Chief of Sanda Loko Chiefdom and commercial motorbike riders, preventing what could have escalated into a violent confrontation.

The mediation took place on Friday, 10 July 2026, when Superintendent Koroma, accompanied by members of the Divisional Tasking and Coordinating Group, intervened in a disagreement involving Pa Komrabai Sesay, Regent Chief of Sanda Loko Chiefdom, and members of the Commercial Motorbike Riders’ Union in Kamalo Town.

The dispute arose after a complaint was lodged against a commercial motorbike rider before the Regent Tribal Authority. Following the complaint, the Regent Chief reportedly ordered that the rider’s motorcycle be impounded. The decision angered fellow commercial bike riders, who threatened to march to the Regent Chief’s residence in protest, raising fears of a possible breach of the peace.

Acting promptly, officers attached to the Kamalo Police Post, under the supervision of Superintendent Koroma, intervened and prevented the situation from escalating. Both parties were advised to remain calm and report to the Kamakwie Divisional Police Headquarters for mediation.

During the meeting, the Regent Chief and representatives of the Commercial Motorbike Riders’ Union were allowed to present their respective grievances. After listening to both sides, Superintendent Koroma encouraged them to resolve the matter amicably, stressing the importance of mutual understanding, respect for one another, tolerance of differing views, and strict adherence to the laws of Sierra Leone.

The mediation ended on a positive note, with both parties reaching an amicable settlement. They expressed appreciation to Superintendent Koroma and his team for their timely intervention, impartiality, and fatherly advice, and pledged to maintain peace and promote harmonious coexistence within the chiefdom.
