The Ministry of Health, led by the Chief Medical Officer, Dr Sartie M. Kenneh, and the Director of Hospital and Ambulance Services, Mr Ibrahim Foday-Musa, conducted a comprehensive assessment of Lungi Government Hospital to evaluate its preparedness for the upcoming 69th ECOWAS Heads of State and Government Summit.
The inspection was conducted following the high-level inspection of the newly constructed Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre by His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio, Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
The assessment focused on the hospital’s emergency response capacity, critical care services, and overall operational readiness to provide timely, quality healthcare services to delegates and the public throughout the summit. The team inspected key service delivery areas, including the newly completed Accident and Emergency (A&E) Unit and the High Dependency Unit (HDU), both of which have been fully equipped by the Ministry of Health under the leadership of the Honourable Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby.

The newly constructed A&E and HDU demonstrate the Government’s continued investment in strengthening emergency and specialized healthcare services. These facilities significantly enhance Lungi Government Hospital’s capacity to manage medical emergencies and provide critical care, reflecting the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring a safe and successful ECOWAS Summit while leaving a lasting legacy of improved healthcare infrastructure for the people of Sierra Leone.

The Ministry of Health remains fully committed to delivering comprehensive emergency medical services throughout the summit and continues to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure the highest standards of healthcare preparedness and patient safety.
