The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has issued a public warning over individuals allegedly impersonating its National Chairman, Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa, in attempts to solicit money and favors through phone calls and messages.
In a statement released Sunday, the party said it has received reports that unknown persons are falsely using the chairman’s name and office to contact members of the public, requesting financial assistance and other benefits.
The SLPP emphasized that Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa is not involved in such activities and described the alleged conduct as fraudulent and misleading. The statement urged citizens to treat any unsolicited request claiming to come from the National Chairman or his representatives with caution.
According to the party, the reported scams are being carried out primarily through unverified telephone numbers and messaging platforms. It warned that individuals behind such communications are attempting to exploit the chairman’s position for personal gain.
The SLPP advised the public not to send money, share personal details, or respond to suspicious requests without proper verification. It encouraged anyone receiving questionable messages or calls to confirm their authenticity directly through official party channels.
The party further directed members of the public to contact or visit the SLPP national headquarters at Unity House for confirmation of any communication allegedly issued by the National Chairman’s office.
It also called for vigilance and urged citizens to report suspected impersonation attempts to the appropriate authorities for investigation.
The warning comes amid growing concerns over digital scams and identity fraud targeting public figures and institutions, with political offices increasingly used as bait for financial deception.
The SLPP said it remains committed to protecting its leadership identity and safeguarding the public from fraudulent actors exploiting political affiliations for illegal gain.
