A Malaysian Court in Kuala Lumpur has refused bail to two Sierra Leoneans, Patrick Samba, 34, Ibrahim Jalloh, 36, for robbing a 58-year-old Japanese businessman, Hiriyoki Azuma of 30,000 US Dollars.

Samba and Jalloh appeared in court alongside another accused, a Liberian identified as 38-year-old Douglas Daniel Divine. Malaysian media reported that the three acted with two others who are still at large.

The three accused were in court on charge under Article 395 of the Malaysian Penal Code which could see each face a maximum jail-term of 20 years or a fine.

The particulars of offence state that the men robbed the businessman at the front of a restaurant in a shopping mall at 1:30 in the afternoon on August 9 this year.

During the proceeding, deputy prosecutor Abdallah argued against bail for all three accused citing that they do not have valid travel documents. However, defense counsel Palaya argued that his clients have travel documents but are with their universities and travel agents. He requested for an early date to request for their travel documents before appealing for bail.

Judge Ali did not offer bail to all three accused and sent all three on remand until September 25 this year.
