More than 120 pupils have graduated from the Tech for Kids Level 1 Programme organised by the Directorate of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) in partnership with UNICEF.

The graduation ceremony, held on 2nd July 2026 at the DSTI Digital Learning Hub (DLH) in Makeni, brought together parents, teachers, school administrators, community leaders, and other education stakeholders to celebrate the achievements of the pupils and highlight the importance of digital literacy among young learners.

The graduates were drawn from five schools across the city, including St. Francis Boys School, Practicing Primary School, Experimental Junior and Senior Secondary School, Benevolent Primary & Junior Secondary School, and Church of God School.

Representing DSTI at the ceremony, the Hub Manager joined the Head of the IT Department at Ernest Bai Koroma University, demonstrating strong collaboration between institutions working to advance digital education in Sierra Leone.

A key highlight of the event was a practical showcase by the pupils, who demonstrated the digital skills they acquired during the programme. Through interactive presentations and exercises, the graduates displayed creativity, problem-solving abilities, and confidence.

Each pupil received a certificate upon successful completion of the programme.

The success of the initiative has sparked increased interest among schools and parents in Makeni, with expectations of higher enrollment in the next intake. The graduates are also set to progress to the next level of the programme to further develop their digital skills.

The Tech for Kids Programme is part of DSTI’s broader effort, in partnership with UNICEF, to bridge the digital divide and provide equitable access to digital education for children and young people across the country.

Through its Digital Learning Hubs, the initiative continues to equip young people with essential skills needed to thrive in a technology-driven world, while promoting innovation, inclusion, and lifelong learning.

The graduation ceremony not only marked the completion of a training programme but also highlights the growing potential of Sierra Leone’s young generation to contribute meaningfully to the digital economy.
