Over 164,000 pupils across Sierra Leone will be sitting for the National Primary School Examination (NPSE) today Saturday, May 4th, 2024.

The exams will be conducted at 310 centers nationwide with 83,523 girls and 80,855 boys registered to participate.

Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, a former education minister, took to social media to wish the pupils well. “Here’s me wishing all the class 6 Pupils taking the NPSE exams this Saturday good luck,” Dr. Sengeh stated on his Facebook page.

The NPSE is a crucial exam for primary school students in Sierra Leone, as passing it allows them to transition from primary school to junior secondary school. This year’s exams will see a slight increase in the number of registered candidates compared to the 163,894 pupils who took the exams in May 2023.

Last year, a total of 163,894 (one hundred and sixty-three thousand, eight hundred and ninety-four) primary school pupils wrote the exams on Saturday 6th May, 2023, which qualifies them to transition from primary school to Junior Secondary School (JSS) level, surpassing 2022 162,068 (one hundred and sixty-two thousand and sixty-eight).
