Popular comedian Kindo Armani has issued a public clarification following widespread reactions to a viral clip from his recent performance at a high-profile event attended by His Excellency the President and other dignitaries.

In a press statement addressed to Sierra Leoneans, Kindo Armani explained that his remarks, which have since sparked debate on social media, were taken out of context after parts of the video were edited and circulated.

According to the comedian, the moment in question occurred while he was serving as both comedian and chairman during the commissioning of a project.

During his performance, he made a light-hearted joke suggesting that one of the problems the President should solve was ensuring that the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) remains in power. He added humorously that if that did not happen, comedians like himself who do not yet have visas would suffer.

He also, in a comedic tone, referenced reports of military officers arrested by the Guinean authorities, joking that they had developed ear problems and could now only understand the local Guinean language- a statement he emphasised was purely fictional and intended for humour.

Kindo Armani stressed that such remarks were part of his routine, which often draws on real-life situations to entertain audiences and provoke thought. He noted that it is widely understood that no individual, including the President, determines election outcomes, as voters decide these.

“For some reason, parts of the clip were cut and shared by people who took it very seriously,” he stated, adding that his response was necessary out of respect for fans who may have been misled.

“Let me be very clear: it was only a joke. Nothing serious. Nothing political,” he said.

The comedian further explained that his work over the past two decades has consistently involved using humour to address national issues. He maintained that his performances are not politically motivated, noting that he maintains friendships across both government and opposition lines.

“My comedy is not politics; it is humour,” he said. “If every joke is taken as a serious statement, then comedy will lose its space. The intention matters.”

While acknowledging that some individuals may not appreciate certain jokes, Kindo Armani reiterated that this does not change their intended purpose.

He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to using comedy as a tool to entertain, educate, and unite Sierra Leoneans.
