In an inspiring initiative aimed at empowering women farmers and enhancing community resilience, ABC-Development, with generous funding from ActionAid Sierra Leone, recently hosted a pivotal training event for women from five communities in Magbema and Masungbala Chiefdoms.
The program, part of the “Kambia District Local Rights Program,” focuses on providing critical training in improved agricultural practices, energy savings, and climate change mitigation.
The event gathered an impressive array of stakeholders committed to advancing the well-being of Kambia’s communities. Notable attendees included Durahmany Kamara (Fonky), Program Officer from ActionAid; Umaru K. Bah from the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs; Councillor Aminata Bangura, Chairperson of the Gender Committee; and Brima Kargbo, District Crops Officer from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Their participation underscored a collective dedication to supporting women’s empowerment in agriculture.
Under the theme “Training Women Farmers on Improved Knowledge, Understanding, Energy and Saving Interventions, and Climate Change Mitigation,” the initiative provides essential resources and education designed to increase agricultural productivity and promote sustainable practices among local women.
Participants received valuable seedlings and financial support, empowering them to boost their agricultural output and improve their families’ quality of life.
Ibrahim Sillah, Executive Director of ABC-Development, encouraged the women to seize this opportunity for growth and innovation.
“Together with ActionAid Sierra Leone, we believe in your capacity to lead positive change in your communities,” he emphasized, referencing the success of the Village Savings and Loans Association, which has enabled many women to achieve economic independence.
Lansana J. Sheriff, Program Officer at ABC-Development, outlined the project components, highlighting how the training could transform livelihoods across the region if met with dedication and active participation. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to ActionAid Sierra Leone for their investment in the well-being of the Kambia community.
Momodu Yillah, Senior Accountant at ABC-Development, reiterated the significant financial commitment made by ActionAid and stressed the importance of accountability in managing the resources provided. His remarks aimed to inspire the women to make a lasting impact through the project.
Facilitating the event was Brima Kargbo, who praised ABC-Development for their impactful work in Kambia District and their unwavering dedication to fostering community resilience.
