The Attorney General of Sierra Leone, Justice Alpha Sesay, in addressing the concerns of Sierra Leoneans requesting the Government to trade-off the Dutch Citizen, Jos Leijdekkers for Adebayor, made clear to the public the government position on the controversial issue.

The Attorney General, made his submission during an interview with the Africa Young Voice media on Thursday, 6th March, 2025. He argued that the issues relating to the Dutch most wanted, Jos Leijdekkers, and the Sierra Leoneans most wanted Adebayoh, are not related.

He revealed and assured that the government’s position on the public’s interest in extraditing Adebayoh to Sierra Leone has been handled by the Dutch Government, emphasizing that the Adebayoh’s matter is not in any way related to the Dutch Fugitive’s case.

“I take my job seriously, and I will not be taking decisions just base on what is in the media; I will take decisions based on the evidence that have been presented to us by the Dutch Authorities,” he asserted explicitly.

The Attorney General stressed that with the collaborative efforts of his team, he will read the documents that have been submitted to them by the Dutch Authority, thoroughly, and examine all the documents. “If it warrants an action from our end, we will take the necessary action,” he admitted, strongly.

He continued by asserting that he would not determine what the action would be because, he said the examination of the documents were in progress. “When it comes to criminal conducts, as in reference to the Criminal Procedure Act, even when matter will be committed from the Magistrate Courts, the age will still be sixty days to examine everything, and to prepare an indictment,” he explained acutely.

In backing up that statement, he concluded by saying that it takes extensive period for examining and preparing indictments because during reviews of documents, and taking decisions on what is to be done, he said it requires efforts and sound reasoning.
