Two businessmen accused of involvement in the alleged theft of a medical machine valued at US$37,100 have been reportedly denied bail by Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown, as committal proceedings continue before Magistrate John Manso Fornah.

The accused, Abdul Jabba Mansaray and Joseph Bellon, are facing separate charges arising from the alleged theft. Mansaray is charged with conspiracy, larceny and obtaining money by false pretences, while Bellon is charged with receiving stolen goods.

During the hearing, Detective Sergeant Mohamed Vandi of the Operations Unit at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters testified on behalf of the prosecution, outlining the police investigation that led to the arrest of the two defendants.

According to the detective, investigators conducted a search at Bellon’s business premises, where they recovered several items, including an iPhone 11 Pro Max. He told the court that the mobile phone was examined as part of the investigation and that Bellon made statements to the police, which were recorded and later tendered as evidence.

Detective Vandi further informed the court that investigators also examined a Samsung Galaxy A15 mobile phone, an Itel Power 900 handset and a cash sum of 50,000 Leones as part of the ongoing investigation.

The prosecution also presented evidence linking Bellon to the alleged offence, including photographs of the stolen medical machine and the bag allegedly used to transport it.

The court heard that Mansaray reportedly admitted his involvement during police questioning conducted on April 9, 2026. However, as the matter remains at the committal stage, neither accused was required to enter a plea.

Counsel for the accused, A.B. Sesay and C. Campbell, applied for bail on behalf of their clients. Magistrate Fornah refused the application, citing the seriousness of the offences before the court.

The matter was adjourned to July 6, 2026, for the continuation of committal proceedings.
