The trial of Lansana Dumbuya, Secretary General of the All People’s Congress (APC), has been adjourned at Court No. 1 on Pademba Road to allow the defence additional time to prepare its no-case submission.

Dumbuya, who serves as Secretary General of the All People’s Congress (APC), is standing trial before Principal Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah on three counts: incitement contrary to law, use of insulting language under Section 2 of the Public Order Act of 1965, and behaving in an insulting manner contrary to Section 12(a) of the same Act as amended in 1973.

The charges stem from an incident alleged to have occurred on January 31, 2026, at the Brima Attouga Mini Stadium. Prosecutors allege that Dumbuya made statements inciting supporters to chant that President Julius Maada Bio was a thief. He is further accused of directing insulting remarks at the Regional Operations Officer for Freetown East, Francis Momodu Tommy, and encouraging additional chants deemed offensive in a public setting.

During the latest court proceedings, the defence requested an adjournment to allow more time to finalise its legal submissions, particularly its no-case argument.

The application was made in the absence of lead defence counsel, with a second defence lawyer informing the court that additional time was necessary to adequately prepare the case.

The prosecution, led by Yusif Issac Sesay, did not oppose the request. However, the lead prosecutor raised concerns about the frequency of adjournments, noting that repeated delays have slowed the progress of the case. He urged the court to consider setting a clear timeline to avoid further unnecessary postponements.

In his ruling, Magistrate Jah granted the adjournment after considering submissions from both sides, allowing the defence the requested time to strengthen its arguments.

The matter has been adjourned to April 30, 2026.
