Chief Minister of Sierra Leone, David Moinina Sengeh, donated three Keke (tricycles) to the Clean Pujehun Agency (CPA) during his recent visit to Pujehun District.

This donation aims to strengthen the agency’s capabilities in waste management and public health and is part of a broader initiative addressing concerns related to the Pujehun Correctional Center.

The Chief Minister’s visit comes amid growing concerns about conditions within the Pujehun Correctional Center and ongoing efforts to alleviate overcrowding in the facility.

During his visit, Chief Minister Sengeh engaged with local authorities and community leaders, discussing the critical need for reform and rehabilitation of inmates, as well as improvements to living conditions within the center.

This initiative is part of the government’s larger strategy to reform the prison system in Sierra Leone, focusing on human rights, rehabilitation, and the reintegration of inmates into society.

In his address at the donation ceremony, Chief Minister Sengeh highlighted the importance of local partnerships in achieving national development goals.

He commended the Clean Pujehun Agency for its relentless efforts in maintaining cleanliness in the district and enhancing public hygiene.

The Chief Minister noted that the Keke tricycles would significantly aid the CPA in their operations, particularly in the collection and disposal of waste in both urban and rural areas.

This donation is not merely a gesture of goodwill; it is part of a larger plan to empower local communities to take control of their environment and enhance sanitation,” Chief Minister Sengeh stated.

By supporting initiatives like the Clean Pujehun Agency, we are not only improving the health and well-being of the populace but also providing sustainable solutions to waste management in this district.

The Clean Pujehun Agency has been instrumental in waste management within the district, providing essential services that ensure cleaner surroundings, prevent disease spread, and maintain public health.

The newly acquired Keke tricycles will enhance the agency’s capacity to reach more areas and manage waste effectively where larger vehicles face challenges.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the CPA, the agency’s coordinator thanked the Chief Minister and the government for their generous support.

He promised to utilize the Keke tricycles efficiently, ensuring they play a vital role in the agency’s mission to promote environmental cleanliness and health in Pujehun.

This donation will significantly impact our operations. It will enable us to reach more communities, collect waste more efficiently, and contribute to a healthier Pujehun,” the coordinator said.

In addition to the donation, Chief Minister Sengeh addressed the government’s ongoing efforts to tackle overcrowding in correctional facilities nationwide.

He acknowledged the challenges faced by the Pujehun Correctional Center, including space constraints, inadequate facilities, and limited resources for inmate rehabilitation.

He assured the local community that the government is working on a comprehensive plan to reform the correctional system, which involves alternative sentencing, rehabilitation programs, and improved facilities for inmates.

The Chief Minister’s visit and the donation of Keke tricycles have been warmly received by the residents of Pujehun, who view it as a positive step toward enhancing public health and improving conditions in the local correctional center.

As the government continues to implement policies aimed at decentralizing services and empowering local agencies, the residents of Pujehun remain hopeful that this support will lead to tangible improvements in their communities.

In conclusion, the Chief Minister urged the people of Pujehun to continue supporting government initiatives that aim to foster development and enhance living standards across the country.
