The management of the Kabala Government Hospital Mortuary has made an urgent appeal to the local council and relevant authorities to intervene in the burial of an unclaimed body that has remained in the facility for over two weeks.
According to the Head of the Mortuary, the deceased is a young man whose identity is still unknown. He reportedly died in the Yogomaia community in Kabala after falling from a coconut tree. The body was later brought to the Kabala Government Hospital Mortuary, where it has been kept while efforts were made to locate relatives or next of kin.
Despite these efforts, no family member or acquaintance has come forward to claim the body. The Head of the Mortuary expressed concern over the situation, noting that the facility is now overstretched.
“We’ve kept it for too long,” the Head of the Mortuary said. “We’re appealing to the authorities to please visit and help us bury this young man who has been abandoned.”
The mortuary management explained that the continued storage of the body is taking up limited space and resources, creating additional pressure on the already constrained rural health facility. The lack of information about the deceased has further complicated efforts to resolve the matter, as it remains unclear whether he had any known relatives.
The Kabala Government Hospital Mortuary is also calling on members of the public who may have information about the deceased to come forward. The appeal, according to mortuary officials, is aimed at ensuring that the young man is given a dignified burial.
As of the time of this report, no official response has been received from the local council or other authorities. Mortuary officials say they hope for a swift intervention to bring closure to the situation and ease the burden on the facility.
