The seventh anniversary celebration of the Gilo Educational Economic and Development (GEED) Foundation commenced on April 11, 2025, on Bonthe Island. The celebration is scheduled to continue until Saturday, April 12, 2025.

Rev. Richard E. Hardyn, Head of the Anglican Church – Bonthe Municipality, welcomed and appreciated Dr. Gilpin and his team for their continuous support to the district and their contribution to national development through education. Rev. Hardyn also acknowledged the impact of the Rokel Commercial Bank outlet, describing it as both prominent and beneficial to community members within and beyond the municipality.

Rev. Samuel Palmer, a senior elder in the Bonthe Municipality, applauded the efforts and contributions of the GEED Foundation, describing them as timely in building the capacities of pupils in Bonthe District. He emphasized the Foundation’s consistent support over the years.

Reflecting on the year of establishment (2007), Mr. Daniel Bassie, a senior team member of the GEED Foundation, noted that the organization has been providing educational, moral, and economic support to Sierra Leoneans for many years. He highlighted that the primary goal of the Foundation is to establish a presence in all districts of Sierra Leone.

On the first day of the celebration, residents of Bonthe District—where Dr. Gilpin hails from—benefited from his continued benevolence, philanthropy, and dedication to human capital development. Activities included a march-past, melodrama performances, and a community feeding program.

Commenting on the Foundation’s work, Christiana Babymay Priddy stated that GEED currently operates in Port Loko, Bo, Tonkolili, and Bonthe Municipality. She noted that the second day of the program would feature a service and the distribution of school materials to pupils within the municipality. She further emphasized the Foundation’s role in providing platforms for youths to acquire both life and technical skills, and expressed hope for increased collaboration between the Foundation and public or private institutions to promote youth mentorship and empowerment. She also highlighted other GEED initiatives, including a nutritional feeding scheme, a micro-finance project, a youth leadership and service academy, and a scholarship scheme.

Mr. George Barlay, Head of the Council of Head Teachers – Bonthe Municipality, commended the GEED Foundation and staff of Rokel Commercial Bank who attended the ceremony in support of their boss, Dr. Ekundayo W. Gilpin. Praising this exemplary role, Mr. Barlay used the opportunity to urge other institutions to complement government efforts in improving education within the municipality and across Sierra Leone.
