Leader of the DIB Movement and APC Flagbearer Aspirant, Dr. Ibrahim Bangura, joined hundreds of Sierra Leoneans for the Environmental Awareness Walk 2026, reaffirming his commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.
The walk, organised by Former Students of DIB, is designed to provide Sierra Leoneans with an opportunity to interact with Dr. Bangura in a relaxed, healthy, and environmentally friendly atmosphere.
It commenced at the Regent Car Park and concluded at the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary.
The event reached its climax with the orderly distribution and planting of special tree species, symbolising a shared commitment to restoring and preserving Sierra Leone’s natural environment.
Participants also witnessed official statements and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque honoring everyone who took part in the initiative.
Addressing participants, Dr. Bangura urged Sierra Leoneans to respect and protect nature, emphasising that environmental stewardship is a collective responsibility essential for the country’s future.
Reflecting on the World Environment Day 2026 theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future,” Dr. Bangura highlighted the campaign’s focus on urgent climate action through three key pillars:
* Inspired by Nature: Promoting nature-based solutions such as protecting forests and wetlands that help combat climate change.
* For Climate: Responding to the growing threat of global warming and supporting efforts to keep global temperature rise below the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C target.
* For Our Future: Encouraging individuals, businesses, and governments to make sustainable choices in energy, food production, and industry for the benefit of future generations.
Dr. Bangura noted that protecting the environment is not only about conserving nature but also about securing a healthier, safer, and more prosperous future for generations to come.
He called on all Sierra Leoneans to embrace environmental responsibility and work together in building a greener and more climate-resilient nation.
