Jimmi Government Secondary School for Boys, a historic institution established in 1923, finds itself in a state of neglect and retrogression, highlighting systemic challenges in the provision of education in the country.
The school, once a proud feeder to the renowned Bo School, has been grappling with neglect and lack of rehabilitation since it suffered damage during the tumultuous years of the rebel war in the nation.
Despite persistent complaints and appeals from various stakeholders, successive governments have failed to prioritize the restoration and revitalization of the institution, leaving it in a sorry state.
In a poignant conversation with Principal Mohamed M. Sarmu Jr at his office in Jimmi Town, it became evident that the school has been largely overlooked compared to other government-owned educational establishments. Principal Sarmu expressed deep disappointment at the lack of attention and support, despite assurances from prominent figures.
Principal Sarmu reminded President Dr. Julius Maada Bio of a promise made during his last visit to the school, which involved providing over 500 mattresses and more than 800 bags of rice. However, this promise remains unfulfilled, leaving the school community disillusioned and disheartened.
Highlighting the dire conditions at Jimmi Boys Secondary School, Principal Sarmu outlined a litany of challenges plaguing the institution. These include a lack of basic amenities such as sufficient bedding and mattresses, inadequate infrastructure, salary arrears affecting 70% of teachers, absence of sporting equipment, unreliable electricity supply, and water scarcity.
In response to these challenges, Principal Sarmu made a heartfelt appeal to the school’s alumni, urging them to continue their support and attention to their alma mater. He stressed the pivotal role they play in ensuring the progress and well-being of the school and its students.
The neglect of Jimmi Boys Secondary School raises serious concerns about the government’s commitment to providing quality education and adequate resources for its pupils. The deteriorating state of the school not only impedes academic growth but also deprives students of a conducive learning environment essential for their holistic development.
This news report aims to shed light on the dire situation facing Jimmi Boys Secondary School and calls upon the government to take urgent action to address the pressing issues confronting the institution. It is imperative that immediate steps be taken to fulfill past promises, allocate necessary resources, and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs to restore Jimmi Boys Secondary School to its former glory.
Failure to address these issues not only jeopardizes the future of the students attending the school but also reflects poorly on the government’s commitment to providing quality education for all its citizens. The time to act is now, and the fate of Jimmi Boys Secondary School hangs in the balance.
Indeed government need to urgently pay greater attention to the school as what the principal has just said.
