Residents of the New York community in Makeni have appealed to the Government of Sierra Leone to urgently provide additional transformers to address ongoing electricity challenges affecting the area.

Community members say persistent blackouts have become a major concern, with many households and businesses struggling under what they described as frequent and prolonged power interruptions.

According to residents, the single transformer currently serving the community is no longer sufficient to meet the growing electricity demand, as the population of the area continues to expand.

Women in the community reportedly expressed particular frustration over the situation, citing the hardship caused by unreliable power supply, especially in managing household activities and small-scale businesses that depend on electricity.

The residents have specifically called on the newly appointed Ministry of Energy to prioritize underserved communities in Makeni by investing in additional electrical infrastructure.

They believe the installation of more transformers would help stabilize electricity supply, improve living conditions, and boost local economic activities in the community.

Residents say they are hopeful that the government will respond positively and take practical steps to resolve the longstanding energy crisis affecting the New York community and surrounding areas.
