The High Court in Kono, presided over by Hon. Justice Santigie Bangura, has sentenced Tamba Saffa to eighteen years’ imprisonment for unlawful possession of kush.

In his ruling, Justice Bangura emphasized the seriousness of drug-related offences and their growing impact on society, particularly among young people.

The conviction followed Saffa’s guilty plea to unlawful possession of drugs, contrary to Section 8(a) of the National Drugs Control Act 2008.

The prosecution told the court that on 6th December 2025 in Kono District, Eastern Province, the accused was found in possession of fifty-eight (58) wraps of kush without lawful authority.

Despite a plea for leniency from defence counsel A.O. Kamara, who described the convict as a first-time offender who was remorseful and willing to reform, the judge held that the seriousness of the offence required a custodial sentence.

The court noted the guilty plea and its role in saving judicial time but stressed that deterrence and protection of society remained paramount.

Tamba Saffa was subsequently sentenced to eighteen years’ imprisonment.
