The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), in partnership with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has extended vital relief support to families who lost loved ones and other victims of the recent flooding incidents in Freetown.
The donation ceremony took place at the Agency’s Headquarters, 64 Sir Samuel Lewis Road, Aberdeen, Freetown, 16th September 2025.
The Church presented a total of 150 (50kg) bags of rice, 150 five-liter containers of vegetable oil, 50 cartons of canned fish, 50 cartons of tin tomatoes, 300 bundles of roofing zinc, and 150 student-sized mattresses to the NDMA on behalf of flood victims.
During the presentation, fifteen (15) beneficiaries, including bereaved families. Each received one 50kg bag of rice, one five-liter container of vegetable oil, one carton of sardines, one carton of tin tomatoes, five bundles of zinc, and one student-sized mattress. The remaining items will be distributed this week to other verified victims.
Welcoming staff members of the Church, NDMA’s Director of Relief and Response, Sinneh Mansaray, explained that the support was specifically for families who lost relatives during the recent floods. He reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to stand with grieving households during their darkest moments.
NDMA’s Director General, Lit. Gen. (Rtd) Brima Sesay expressed profound gratitude to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for its continuous partnership with the Agency in supporting disaster victims. He emphasized that the Church’s contributions to emergency response have significantly strengthened NDMA’s nationwide response capacity and encouraged the Church to continue serving humanity through such humanitarian efforts.
Speaking on behalf of the Church, Elder Lon Larsen, Welfare, Self-Reliance, and Humanitarian Missionary, noted that the donation formed part of the Church’s broader humanitarian commitment to disaster-affected families. He reaffirmed the Church’s pledge to stand with vulnerable communities in times of need and emphasized their continued commitment to supporting disaster victims in Sierra Leone.
NDMA’s Deputy Director General, John Vandy Rogers, thanked the Church for consistently standing by Sierra Leone in times of crisis. He assured that NDMA would continue to leverage the Church’s humanitarian commitment to solicit further support for disaster victims across the country. He also called on other humanitarian organizations to emulate the Church’s example in strengthening the Agency’s disaster response capabilities.
