The former Regent Chief of Kholifa Mabang Chiefdom has been re-elected as the Chairman of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) in Constituency 49, located in the Tonkolili District of Northern Sierra Leone.
In a decisive victory, Sallu Kargbo received 29 out of 30 votes from the delegates representing the Constituency’s three Chiefdoms, comfortably defeating Idrissa Maxwell Turay, who secured just one vote.
The election took place on Saturday, March 1, 2025, in Rochen Malal town, within the Malal Chiefdom. Kargbo’s overwhelming support in the election demonstrates his continued popularity among grassroots members of the SLPP.
The result surprised Kargbo’s critics, who had previously predicted that he would lose due to a perceived decline in his popularity. The election was heavily monitored by both the Sierra Leone Police and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces to maintain security and ensure the process was peaceful. Political analysts have described the election as free, fair, and credible.
Kargbo is widely respected for his leadership and the impactful policies he implemented during his time as Regent Chief of Kholifa Mabang. His re-election as SLPP Chairman has been warmly celebrated by party supporters across the three Chiefdoms of Kholifa Mabang, Malal, and Kholifa Mamunta Mayossoh.
As Regent Chief, Kargbo’s visionary leadership left a lasting legacy on his community, and he will be remembered for the positive changes he brought to the region.
