A woman has accused a childhood friend of defrauding her after he allegedly took goods worth approximately Le300,000 and disappeared for two years.

Kadie Fatima Fofanah wrote on Facebook that she traveled to Sierra Leone in 2022 with half a container of goods, including Pampers, cooking oil, soap, and toothpaste. During her visit, she reconnected with her childhood friend, Hamouda.

“Because of our longstanding friendship, he asked if he could sell the goods and make a profit. I agreed and entrusted him with goods worth approximately Le300,000,” she wrote.

However, she said he took the goods and disappeared, remaining out of contact for two years.

In 2024, police located and arrested him, as a warrant had already been issued. He was detained at Pademba Road Prison for one month while the matter was before the court.

“He was later released and signed a consent judgment agreeing to repay the debt,” Fofanah said. “During that time, he gave me a cheque and told me that I had one month to cash it. He later admitted that the cheque was fake and advised me not to bother taking it to the bank.”

She said it has now been three and a half years since he took her goods.

“He has refused and/or failed to settle the debt,” she wrote. “Since then, he has been in hiding and has made no effort to honor his obligation.”

Fofanah said she is now appealing for justice, adding that she trusted him because of their long history as friends.
