Magistrate Wilbri Hamida M. John of Magistrate Court No.2 in Kenema has committed three defendants to stand trial at the High Court of Sierra Leone for serious offenses, including housebreaking, larceny, malicious wounding, and a separate sexual assault case.
The three individuals, Moses Ngegbai, Jusu Gbessay, and Joseph Richard, were remanded to the Sierra Leone Correctional Centre (SLCC) in Kenema after their preliminary hearings. The ruling followed a review of evidence and testimony presented by the prosecution.
Moses Ngegbai faces charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, specifically housebreaking and larceny. The alleged offense took place on November 19, 2025, at Dodo Town, Dodo Chiefdom, Kenema Judicial District.
According to Prosecuting Officer Woman Police Sergeant 4654 Watta Bakarr, Ngegbai conspired with others to commit the crime, which involved breaking into a property and stealing valuables.
In another case, Jusu Gbessay is charged with malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The incident occurred on the same day, November 19, 2025, at Kambama Newsite, Lower Bambara Chiefdom, Kenema District.
The victim, Yayah Abu, reportedly sustained serious injuries, and Gbessay now faces the possibility of a High Court trial for his alleged involvement in the violent act.
A separate case involving Foday Sesay, who is accused of sexual penetration, has been referenced but remains distinct from the charges against Ngegbai and Gbessay.
No pleas were taken by any of the defendants in this matter, and they were all committed to the High Court for further proceedings.
Meanwhile, in a separate and unrelated case, Joseph Richard Musa, a bike rider, was arraigned for larceny. He pleaded guilty to stealing a black Itel manual mobile phone, valued at NLe 400.00, from Victoria Sorie on December 14, 2025, at 3 Forbbie Street, Kenema. Musa was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment at the SLCC in Kenema.
The commitment of Ngegbai, Gbessay, and the sexual assault case is significant, as the High Court will now review the evidence against them and determine whether they will face a full trial. Magistrate John’s ruling comes after careful consideration of the facts presented during the court proceedings.
The case is closely watched by members of the community, as it involves multiple serious offenses. The three defendants will remain in custody until their trial date in the High Court of Sierra Leone.
The prosecution has indicated that further legal proceedings will follow in the coming months.
