In a grand ceremony held in the Chiefdom headquarters on the 11th of April, 2024, the town Chiefs of Samu Chiefdom were bestowed with traditional powers and respect by the Honorable Paramount Chief Alhajie Bai Shebora Yek the Second.
The Chiefdom Speaker, Pa Adikalie Lansana Turay, commenced the proceedings by emphasizing the significance of the day. He applauded the newly crowned Chiefs for their respect and determination to lead their communities with dignity and authority.
Following his remarks, the word was handed over to the esteemed elders of the Chiefdom, representing the traditional hearing of the Paramount Chief. Honorable PC Alhajie Bai Shebora Yek II expressed his gratitude towards the Chiefs and their people for consistently showing respect and honor to him and the Chiefdom Development Council elders.
Paramount Chief Yek elaborated on the importance of the occasion, highlighting its potential to transform and promote positive change within the Chiefdom and its communities. He emphasized the moral development aspect of chieftaincy and urged the newly crowned Chiefs to be law-abiding, respectful to their subjects, and to promote peace and unity.
The Paramount Chief also addressed the issue of the illegal drug “Kush” urging vigilance in monitoring its use and sale. He stressed the importance of bylaws in combating and eradicating the use of Kushe and other harmful substances. Given that Samu Chiefdom shares a border, he emphasized the need for vigilance to detect any unusual activities.
“The progress of Samu Chiefdom lies in the hands of the youth,” Honorable Paramount Chief declared. He expressed concerns over the impact of drugs on the youth, questioning who would lead when their time comes if they are adversely affected.
In response to the Paramount Chief’s address, Pa Adikalie Kanu of Laya Junction expressed gratitude on behalf of the Chiefs. He pledged to be a role model in the history of chieftaincy in the Chiefdom and vowed to combat the use of Kush and other illegal activities in their communities.
