UNICEF Sierra Leone has launched its flagship publication titled Progress and Promise: Advancing Results for Every Child in Sierra Leone, highlighting more than four decades of efforts to improve the lives of children across the country through partnerships with the Government of Sierra Leone and development partners.

The publication was officially launched in Freetown during an event that brought together government officials, development partners, young people, and other stakeholders to reflect on achievements made in advancing children’s welfare and to reaffirm a collective commitment to protecting children’s rights.

According to UNICEF Sierra Leone, the report outlines major gains recorded in areas including child survival, education, child protection, and access to essential services. The publication also points to remaining challenges and emphasizes the need for sustained action to ensure that no child is left behind.

Speaking at the launch, UNICEF Representative Rudolf Schwenk said the organization and its partners must continue prioritizing vulnerable children despite the progress already achieved.

“While we celebrate the progress made, the promise-to reach every child, especially the most vulnerable-remains at the heart of our collective work,” Schwenk stated.

UNICEF Sierra Leone noted that the publication serves both as a reflection on past achievements and a call for continued collaboration to improve the lives of children nationwide.

The organization stressed that continued partnership between the Government of Sierra Leone, communities, development partners, and young people remains essential to building on existing progress and ensuring that every child survives, thrives, and fulfills their potential.

The launch event also provided stakeholders with an opportunity to renew commitments toward advancing children’s rights and strengthening efforts aimed at improving access to quality services for children and families across Sierra Leone.
