In response to escalating tensions in Waterloo following the recently concluded general elections, the Sierra Leone Police, Waterloo Division, has received a reinforcement of 50 RSLAF soldiers from the Armed Forces Training Center, Benguma Barracks, Waterloo.
This additional force is intended to support security operations in the town.
To address the concerns surrounding the situation, the Young Generation Leaders of both the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the All People’s Congress (APC) held an emergency meeting with the LUC of Waterloo, CSP Mr. Ibrahim M. Sama, on June 26, 2023.
During the meeting, the young leaders expressed their worries and presented various issues, including the need for armed police personnel to safeguard their party offices.
In light of the widespread celebrations and counter-celebrations by both the SLPP and APC in Waterloo, where each claimed victory in the June 24 polls, there were incidents that disrupted the peace.
Consequently, on June 26, 2023, the Waterloo Division received a reinforcement of 50 RSLAF soldiers from the Armed Forces Training Center, Benguma Barracks, Waterloo, to provide additional support to the Sierra Leone Police in maintaining peace and order.
