Three women were reportedly arrested on Monday, July 8, 2025, for allegedly mixing an unidentified chemical substance with palm oil in Bo. The arrests were made at approximately 1:00 PM on Sam Street by the Bo West Division Operations Unit, led by Sergeant 9582 Morlu A., following a tip-off. The suspects — Fatmata Kassaquoi, Fatmata Kamara, and Mariatu Turay — were caught at the scene with 83 bottles and one and a half large containers of palm oil believed to have been tampered with.

According to preliminary investigations, the palm oil samples have been sent for laboratory analysis to determine the exact chemical used and to assess any potential health risks.

Speaking to the media, Sergeant Morlu emphasized the seriousness of the incident: “This is a serious matter concerning food safety and public health. We are currently investigating the source of the chemical, the motive behind its use, and whether the contaminated oil was intended for public consumption.

The suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity, especially those involving food products or possible chemical tampering.

The swift response has been credited to the proactive leadership of Chief Superintendent Joseph Honor Kamara, Local Unit Commander of the Bo West Division, who has received commendation for his continued commitment to community safety and crime prevention.

Police have assured that regular updates will be provided as investigations progress.
