A joint operation by police officers from the Makeni and Panlap Divisions, supported by regional headquarters personnel, has resulted in the rescue of 123 drug addicts across Makeni and surrounding areas.

The individuals were transferred to a rehabilitation centre along the Makeni–Kabala Highway.

The initiative, spearheaded by Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Victor Manfred Williams, was carried out in collaboration with the Mayor of Makeni City Council, Abu Bakarr Lamtail Kamara, and local youth groups. The operation targeted both users and dealers of harmful substances, including Kush, Tramadol, and Cannabis Sativa.

Sahid Arene Kabia (Gaza), Head of the Action for Rehabilitation Centre in Makeni, said the operation aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to combat narcotic drug abuse, which continues to devastate the lives of many young Sierra Leoneans.

He commended the police, the Mayor, and the youth for their collective effort and urged broader community participation in the national fight against drugs.

Speaking to the rescued individuals at the Rogbaneh Police Station, AIG Williams emphasized that the Sierra Leone Police remain committed to protecting lives and supporting drug users through rehabilitation rather than punishment.

The operation underscores the growing collaboration between law enforcement, local authorities, and communities in addressing the drug menace in Sierra Leone.
