A delegation of 300 Sierra Leonean home-based pilgrims, chaired by Alhaji Murtada Sesay, chairman of the Presidential Hajj Taskforce, arrived safely in Madinah, marking an important milestone in this year’s Hajj pilgrimage preparations.
When the team arrived at Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport, Sierra Leone Ambassador Mohammed S. Barrie and Deputy Ambassador Abdul Aziz Turay greeted them kindly.
The pilgrims are said to be presently resting at the Sedrtul Madimah hotel, which is near Masjid Nabawi, where they will pray every day and tour historic Islamic sites such as the Prophet Muhammad’s tomb. These spiritual exercises help people prepare for the grand Hajj ceremonies in Makkah.
In another development, 100 Sierra Leonean pilgrims who were awarded the Saudi Royal Hajj scholarship are set to leave Freetown today. They will arrive at King Abdulaziz International Airport following an eight-hour flight to join the larger contingent.
According to reports, Sierra Leone will send 2,000 pilgrims to conduct Hajj this year, including both domestic and international travelers.
The pilgrimage is scheduled to take place from June 4 to June 9, 2025 (8th to 12th Dhul-Hijjah 1446H). The coordinated preparations reflect continuous cooperation between authorities from both countries to guarantee a seamless and safe pilgrimage for all participants.
