The Acting MD and Deputy Managing Director of the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) has on Monday October 31, 2022 paid a courtesy call on Sierra Leone’s Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayai Sellu at the Police HQ, George Street in Freetown.

Mr. Albert Harrison Harvey used the opportunity to thank the IG on the transformation that has so far taken place in the SLP since the appointment of IGP Sellu. He said that it is important to strengthen and improve the existing relationship between the Police and SALWACO. He added that as a Government institution, SALWACO has a responsibility to provide pure water across the country, with Freetown as an exception.

DMD Harvey also said that the thrust of the visit was to congratulate the new IG on his appointment and to further strengthen the cordial relationship that has been existing between SALWACO and the SLP.

He added that SALWACO is faced with a lot of challenges especially in the area of theft, as people tend to target armoured cables of the Company, thereby resulting to a loss of valuable institutional equipments. He said that such negativities do hamper the ability of SALWACO to effectively deliver to the public.

DMD Harvey described water and a public and security political good, adding that, it therefore needs every form of protection. He said that water as a necessary societal commodity needs every form of protection and to ensure that the service is always fully secured and protected.

DMD Harvey also spoke about how some illegal activities tend to disturb the free flow of water across the country. He added that the ongoing water projects across the country therefore need every form of protection and security. He said that such will help in ensuring that the objectives of the projects are fully delivered and realized.

IG Sellu remarked that there is every need for SALWACO and the SLP to always fully collaborate. He said that it is prudent to protect and secure SALWACO properties, noting that any harm or destruction on them is a huge loss to government and the people of Sierra Leone.

He said that the government investments in the water sector should not be damaged for any reason, stating that the SLP will continue to provide the necessary support and protection. IGP Sellu stated that the SLP has greatly been apprehending people who tend to disturb the operations and projects of SALWACO another utilities across the country and that SLP will continue on that path.

The two authorities therefore discussed essential strategies and to see that the relationship between the SLP and SALWACO is maintained at all times, for the growth and development of Sierra Leone.
