A delegation from the Bank of Sierra Leone, led by Governor Dr. Ibrahim Stevens and his deputy, recently engaged Port Lojo local stakeholders and residents to discuss the future of the country’s financial systems.
The meeting, which was a part of the Bank’s outreach efforts held at the central community of Port Loko municipality, on February 5, 2025.
Focused on the introduction of an innovative financial service aimed at easing transactions among banks, mobile network operators, and their customers. Dr. Stevens described the system as “instant payment,” emphasizing its convenience and potential to revolutionize the way financial transactions are conducted in Sierra Leone.
In his remarks, Dr. Stevens highlighted the multiple benefits of the new system. “The system is secure, fast, convenient, and cost-effective,” he said, underscoring how it could bring about greater financial inclusion, especially for those in remote regions.
The gathering, which drew a diverse audience, included the North West Region Resident Minister, Ambassador Umaru Bond Wurrie, as well as Paramount Chiefs from the district, representatives from the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank, mobile money operators, and local residents. Statements from stakeholders expressed similar impression of support for the initiative, welcoming the Bank of Sierra Leone’s efforts to enhance the financial sector.
The engagement also included discussions on how this new system would positively impact local businesses and contribute to the overall economic growth of the district.
