On Sunday, December 1, 2024, Baokasie Gas Services officially opened its new gas station to the public, located at Number 2, Tokeh Highway Peninsula Road, in the Western Rural District of Freetown.
In a statement during the launch, Dr. Mustapha S. Tejan-Kella, the Chief Executive Officer of Baokasie Services, emphasized the importance of the new gas station in the community. He outlined that the goal of the facility is to provide high-quality fuel and services while creating job opportunities for local youth and contributing to the national economy.
Dr. Tejan-Kella further highlighted the strategic location of the gas station, noting its potential to improve accessibility for travelers along the Peninsula Road. He expressed gratitude to the National Petroleum Company (NP) for its support in the establishment of the station and also commended the Government of Sierra Leone for fostering a favorable environment for the growth of the petroleum industry in the country.
In a speech, Samura Ansumana, Director of Operations and Pricing at the Petroleum Regulatory Agency (PRA), stressed the importance of safety and regulatory compliance in the fuel industry. He assured the public that Baokasie Gas Services adhered to all safety standards, guaranteeing the safe and efficient operation of the station.
Dr. Paul Kaisam, Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Standard Bureau, spoke about the importance of quality control in the petroleum sector. He expressed confidence that Baokasie Services would meet and exceed regulatory standards, ensuring customers access reliable and safe fuel.
The Deputy Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA) also commended the strategic location of the gas station, acknowledging its potential impact on the local economy.
In her keynote address, the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Madam Fatmata Kargbo, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering private sector investment in Sierra Leone. She praised Baokasie Services for its investment in local infrastructure and job creation, noting that the government’s efforts had created the enabling environment for the expansion of the petroleum industry in the country.
Madam Kargbo added that the establishment of the gas station was in line with President Julius Maada Bio’s vision to open up market spaces for affordable and accessible products. She expressed hope that the station would contribute to healthy competition among oil marketers in Sierra Leone, further stimulating economic growth.
As the event concluded, attendees were given the opportunity to tour the new facility, which boasts modern amenities, including a convenience store and a range of services designed to enhance the customer experience. The Baokasie Services gas station is expected to become a key stop for travelers along Peninsula Road.
Baokasie Services also expressed appreciation for the support of President Julius Maada Bio’s administration in sustaining the operations of Oil Marketing Companies in Sierra Leone.
