Prominent Sierra Leonean lawyer Basita Michael has shared her perspective on the Attorney General’s decision to enter a nolle prosequi in relation to former President Ernest Bai Koroma, suggesting that the greatest beneficiary may not be the former president, the Government, or the country’s peace process, but his seven-year-old granddaughter.
In a post shared on X, Michael observed that public debate has largely focused on who stands to benefit most from the Attorney General’s decision. According to her, opinions have ranged from former President Koroma himself to the Government and the broader goal of national peace and reconciliation.
Offering her own view, Michael wrote that she would “put my bet on little Lizzy,” referring to Koroma’s granddaughter.
She said she believes the young girl would be the biggest beneficiary of the nolle prosequi, as the decision could allow her to spend more time with her grandfather.
Michael’s remarks have since attracted attention on social media, adding another perspective to the ongoing public discussion surrounding the Attorney General’s decision and its implications.
