His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone held a significant meeting with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, at the IMF’s headquarters in Washington DC.

This encounter marked an essential step in strengthening the relationship between Sierra Leone and the IMF, a staunch supporter of the President’s development initiatives.

During their meeting, President Bio expressed his gratitude to the IMF for its unwavering support in the face of Sierra Leone’s challenging economic circumstances.

He acknowledged the IMF’s allocation of $283 million to Sierra Leone, a move aimed at bolstering the country’s foreign reserves and facilitating budget implementation for the years 2022 and 2023.

President Bio also emphasized his government’s commitment to people-focused policy initiatives as he embarks on his second term in office, calling upon the IMF to collaborate closely with Sierra Leone to realize these goals.

In response, Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva commended President Bio for his efforts in stabilizing Sierra Leone’s economy. She urged him to continue on this path and assured him of the IMF’s enduring support, especially in assisting vulnerable populations during these challenging times.
