Today marks the first anniversary of the passing of Madam Agnes Deen-Jalloh, the elder sister of Sierra Leone’s President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio. A year has passed since her death, but the profound impact she had on her family and community is still deeply felt.

In a heartfelt tribute, President Bio honored his late sister with an emotional message shared today. He expressed the enduring pain of her absence while reflecting on her unwavering love, wisdom, and guidance throughout his life.

“It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since you left us, Mrs. Agnes Deen-Jalloh, and the pain of your absence is still deeply felt. Ngor Agnes, your presence touched so many lives, and the impact you made will forever be cherished,” President Bio said in his tribute. “I find myself missing our small conversations and the warmth you brought into every interaction. Rest peacefully, knowing you are loved and remembered by all of us. Sleep on.”

Madam Agnes passed away on February 18, 2024, at the age of 74. She was not only a sister to the President but a constant source of strength, support, and guidance. Known affectionately as “Sissy” and “Ngor,” she was a motherly figure to President Bio, always offering wisdom and comfort throughout his transformative years.

Reflecting on her significant role in his life, President Bio said, “I’m still learning to swim and navigate the world without my elderly sister since that fateful day on the 18th of February. She was not just my sister; she was a pillar of strength, a guiding light, and a source of unwavering support throughout my life.”

President Bio went on to describe his sister as a “beautiful, selfless, and God-fearing woman who loved me unconditionally and served humanity diligently.” Her kindness and generosity left a lasting mark on all who knew her.

As part of his tribute today, the President shared a short video celebrating Madam Agnes’s life and legacy, remembering the many lives she touched. “Rest in eternal peace, my darling Sissy, until we meet to part no more. Your light and legacy will live through the many lives you touched with your love, warmth, and generosity,” he added.
