Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has expressed his deep sorrow over the passing of the country’s renowned music icon, Lansana Sheriff, better known as Steady Bongo.

The celebrated artist tragically lost his life in a road accident on the Liberia highway.

Born on August 28, 1966, in Daru, Kailahun District, Steady Bongo gained international acclaim for his powerful contributions to Sierra Leone’s music scene. His unique sound and socially conscious lyrics earned him a special place in the hearts of music lovers both at home and abroad.

President Bio took to social media to mourn the loss, writing on Twitter (X), “H.E @PresidentBio is deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Lansana Sheriff, who was fondly known as Steady Bongo. This is a significant loss for Sierra Leone. Steady touched many lives through his music, and he will be remembered for his educational and thought-provoking songs.
