Sierra Leone’s President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio has officially commissioned a new state-of-the-art headquarters for the National Communications Authority (NatCA) at South Ridge, Imatt in Freetown, marking a major milestone in the country’s push toward digital transformation.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Friday, April 17, 2026, brought together government officials, stakeholders in the telecommunications sector, and development partners, all witnessing what authorities described as a major step forward in strengthening Sierra Leone’s digital infrastructure.
Speaking at the event, President Bio highlighted the importance of the new facility in advancing national connectivity and bridging the digital divide, particularly in underserved communities.
“I am excited to share that I have opened our new NatCA building, a significant step forward in transforming Sierra Leone’s digital infrastructure,” the President said. “This remarkable milestone brings us closer to becoming a truly digital nation, reaching into the most underserved areas.”
The President emphasized that the new headquarters would play a central role in enhancing regulatory oversight and ensuring the safe management of digital systems across the country. He noted that building a secure and well-regulated digital environment remains a priority for his administration.
“We’re proud to lay the groundwork for a secure, well-regulated digital ecosystem where data protection is a top priority,” President Bio stated.
According to the President, the commissioning of the facility represents more than just infrastructure development, describing it as a symbol of progress and innovation in Sierra Leone’s digital journey.
“This achievement marks a new chapter of innovation and progress for Sierra Leone,” he added.
The National Communications Authority is responsible for regulating the telecommunications and broadcasting sectors in Sierra Leone. The new headquarters is expected to improve operational efficiency and support the government’s broader agenda of expanding digital access and strengthening governance in the ICT sector.
The event notably reflects ongoing efforts by the government to modernize public institutions and position Sierra Leone as an emerging digital economy in the region.
