Bo City is undergoing a notable phase of urban renewal, as the municipal council intensifies efforts to improve infrastructure, service delivery, and economic opportunities under the leadership of Kobba Musa.

Despite delays in central government funding, the council has adopted a proactive approach, leveraging a combination of donor partnerships and enhanced local revenue collection to sustain development initiatives. Officials say this strategy has enabled the city to transition from a traditionally bureaucratic system to a more responsive, service-oriented institution.

Deputy Chief Administrator Haja Halimah Lukay highlighted key achievements, emphasizing improvements in revenue mobilization and administrative efficiency.

She noted that although some residents continue to fall short of meeting tax obligations, internally generated revenue has increased compared to previous years.

According to Lukay, one of the major constraints previously facing the council was inconsistent electricity supply, which slowed administrative processes and increased operational costs. However, a partnership with Aschaffenburg Municipality has provided a solar-powered energy solution, enabling round-the-clock electricity at the council offices.

This development has significantly reduced reliance on fuel and improved service delivery timelines, including the processing of business licenses and official documents.

On infrastructure, the reconstruction of the Bo City Hall is nearing completion, with officials estimating the project at approximately 90 percent. The redevelopment includes a modern administrative block, installation of a solar-powered borehole, and enhanced security facilities.

The restoration of the historic clock tower is also part of the broader effort to preserve the city’s heritage while modernizing its operations.

In the commercial sector, the council is expanding market infrastructure through the construction of 92 new stalls, supported by both council initiatives and private sector collaboration, including partnerships with Poni Estate. Authorities say this is expected to improve trading conditions and stimulate local economic activity.

Mayor Musa has reiterated his vision of transforming Bo into a modern and competitive city. Speaking during a recent media engagement, he called on residents to comply with municipal bylaws and fulfill their tax responsibilities to support ongoing development.

Council officials maintain that sustained cooperation between residents, development partners, and the local authority will be critical in maintaining progress and ensuring long-term urban growth.
