The 12 days wet feeding program, organized by Caritas Freetown, for victims of the fire incident that engulfed the Culvert Community on the 3rd May, 2022 has come to an end.
It must be noted that exactly on the 13th of May 2022, after the horrendous fire incident happened within the Culvert Community, Caritas Freetown in collaboration with Tzu Chi under the Partnering to Serve Humanity provided emergency relief support to the victims slated to last for a period of 12days.
The fire outbreak which was caused by an electrical malfunction left about 750 people completely homeless and vulnerable among whom children and women suffered the most. Situations for lactating mothers and under-five children became worse as there was no available food or aid for them.
Moreover, the adults also suffer from homelessness, lack of water, food and clothing.
It was against this grim backdrop that Partnering to Serve Humanity Consortium decided to provide 12 days of wet-feeding for the victims in that community. The food served was their only source of assured meal for a day as they had no cooking utensils or money to cook for themselves.
All or most of the beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude to CARITAS Freetown for the free feeding program as was manifested in
the community women and children mobilizing themselves and sang songs of praise to Caritas and its partners.
