The government of Sierra Leone has released a comprehensive update on its Priority Capital Projects for the first quarter of 2025, emphasizing significant investments aimed at improving infrastructure and public services across the nation.

In the roads sector, the government has successfully completed major roadworks on key thoroughfares, including Macauley Street, High Broad Street, and Leicester Road. These improvements are anticipated to enhance national connectivity, facilitating better transportation for citizens and businesses alike, with an investment of $4.5 million.

In a vital public health initiative, access to clean water has been expanded to approximately 775,000 citizens in regions such as Blama Bandawor, Kabala, and Kailahun, supported by an investment of $1.307 million. This project addresses critical water supply issues, promoting better health outcomes in these communities.

The energy sector has also seen substantial investment, with $6 million allocated for the installation of thermal plants in six towns and upgrades to the solar facility in Kamakwie. These efforts aim to increase energy availability and reliability, which is essential for supporting economic growth and development.

In the fisheries sector, the reopening of the Black Johnson Fisheries Harbour has attracted $25 million in investments, revitalizing the industry and creating new economic opportunities for local communities with a budget of $50,000.

Agricultural productivity is being bolstered through an investment of $3.375 million, focusing on mechanized farming. This includes the introduction of new irrigation systems, storage facilities, and equipment to enhance food security throughout the country.

Finally, the government has allocated $100,000 to strengthen monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, ensuring that all projects are effectively overseen and assessed for success.
