In recent years, Sierra Leone has witnessed a significant trend: an increasing number of Chinese nationals are acquiring Sierra Leonean passports. This phenomenon is largely driven by the strengthening economic ties between China and Sierra Leone, characterized by substantial investments across various sectors.
Chinese investors have flocked to Sierra Leone, drawn by lucrative opportunities in mining, agriculture, and infrastructure development. These investments have not only bolstered the local economy but have also encouraged Chinese businesspeople to seek citizenship or residency to facilitate their operations. With streamlined naturalization processes in place, many are successfully navigating pathways to obtaining a Sierra Leonean passport.
The influx of Chinese professionals working on major projects in Sierra Leone has further fueled this trend. After spending years contributing to the country’s development, many of these workers are now applying for permanent residency and citizenship to solidify their ties to the nation.
Family connections also play a significant role in this growing trend. Many Chinese nationals are marrying Sierra Leoneans, which has enabled them to pursue citizenship through their spouses.
As the bilateral relationship between China and Sierra Leone continues to strengthen, the movement of people between the two nations is becoming increasingly fluid. This shift not only reflects the expanding economic partnership but also highlights the evolving landscape of global migration and investment in Sierra Leone.
As more Chinese nationals obtain Sierra Leonean citizenship, the impact on local communities and the economy is expected to deepen, reshaping the demographic fabric of the nation in the years to come.
This is frightening as the opposite is not true for Sierra Leoneans in China. Besides, these naturalized Chinese disrespect and discriminate against Sierra Leoneans. The lebanese who have had far longer ties in the country were never allowed to acquire citizenship, vote or be elected. Since China is for Chinese, let Sierra leone be for Sierra Leoneans. We can avail then residency status only.
This country is really a joke and so what happens to Nassar Ayub?
Everyday Sierra constitution is been toiled with…
So na so Salon book don kam now? For get am na by sentimental? Chiii
Some these things you post are they your opinions or those of individual or entity who you act as proxy for. Can you also do a research showing how Sierra Leonean leaving in china are similar benefiting from this so called relationship you have described. As a media outlet you have been doing extremely well but this post is way below the very standard you have created for yourself. people have concerns if the said individual meet the criteria for naturalization so you story should articulate the requirement of gaining citizenship through naturalization.
Still it doesn’t make sense, is that same privilege given back to sierra Leonean in China
Even the foreign nationals born in Sierra Leone don’t have Sierra Leone passport
This country is a joke
Honestly, I see nothing bad about that, infact according to civil education it’s says as long as the person has fulfill his or her criteria and gone through the legal govt process to be a Citizen in a country, It good to go.
Likewise there are lots of sierraleoneans that are citizens in china, America, uk etc. what will you say about those countries??
