The Campaign for Human Rights and Development International (CHRDI), on Thursday, July 2, 2026, engaged senior lawmakers and policymakers in Sierra Leone to advance discussions on personal data protection and privacy rights.
The engagement included a meeting with members of the Parliamentary Committee on Information and Civic Education, as well as the Chief Minister, where CHRDI presented its Privacy and Personal Data Protection Advocacy Toolkit. The toolkit is being developed in collaboration with a Fulbright Specialist under a White House-supported programme and CHRDI.

Both the Parliamentary Committee leadership and the Chief Minister expressed support for the proposed Data Protection Bill and pledged to work towards its smooth passage, with continued collaboration from civil society organisations.
CHRDI noted that it has been working closely with the Ministry of Information and Civic Education throughout the drafting process, and also acknowledged the support of the Attorney General’s Office in facilitating technical review of the bill.

The organisation described the initiative as a key step toward strengthening privacy rights and improving protections for citizens and businesses in Sierra Leone.
It further emphasised that personal data protection is fundamental to individual freedom and digital security in an increasingly digital society.
