Assistant Director of Media and Communication at the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), Christopher A.A. Jones, has confirmed that the results of the recently concluded Village Head election are to be announced today Friday, November 3, 2023.

The announcement according to him, will be made by 9:30 a.m. at the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone’s Headquarter on Tower Hill, Freetown.

The Village Head Elections in the Western Area Rural District was held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, by the ECSL, acting within the authority granted by Section 33 of the Constitution of Sierra Leone (Act No 6 of 1991) and in accordance with the provisions of Section 93, 105, and 108 of the Public Election Act 2022 (Act No 17 of 2022).

The elections concluded successfully according to ECSL. Although polling was canceled in one polling center (polling center 15327, Mile 13 Sussex Kingtom) due to a misplacement of the polling center, voting proceeded peacefully at 663 out of the 668 polling stations across eight villages.

Throughout the election process, candidate agents were present in all polling stations, and security was visible with the presence of the Sierra Leone Police, RSLAF, and ONS.

The elections were also observed by various organizations, including the Elections Observation Network (EON), Sierra Leone Civil Rights Coalition (SLRC), International Human Rights Commission (IHRC), and Diaspora Focus. Voting concluded in the entire Western Area Rural District at 5:00 p.m. on October 28, 2023.
