Benjamin Best Nnanyereugo, a Nigerian fugitive infamously known as ‘KillaBoi’ who confessed to murdering his girlfriend, Augusta Osedion, in July 2023, has reportedly escaped from police custody in Sierra Leone.
Nnanyereugo, who fled Nigeria after publicly admitting to the murder, was arrested in Sierra Leone in October 2023 following a relentless manhunt led by the victim’s family.
However, recent developments suggest that the suspect is no longer in custody, with reports indicating he may have fled the country during the attempted coup and Pademba road prison break in November 2023.
Following his arrest 2023, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) announced that extradition proceedings had commenced. However, questions regarding Nnanyereugo’s whereabouts emerged after a recent video surfaced online in January 2025 purportedly showing him in Doha, Qatar.
Osedion’s mother, Onwabhagbe Cordelia Nneji, told FIJ that the extradition process was plagued by “collective irresponsibility” from both the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and the NPF. She claimed she was warned by Sierra Leonean police about potential “corruption” and that the Inspector General of Police in Sierra Leone emphasized it was a “handover,” not extradition, and expressed concern about the delayed arrival of Nigerian authorities.
The extradition was scheduled for November 27, 2023, but on the eve of the transfer, Nnanyereugo escaped during a violent prison break on November 26 when armed individuals attacked the Pademba Road prison facility, freeing thousands of inmates.
Since the escape, the Sierra Leonean police have gone silent, refusing to respond to Nneji’s calls and messages. A senior Nigerian police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the escape to FIJ, stating, “He is with them, and he escaped there. They should be held responsible for that. We cannot barge into another country to arrest someone.”
For Augusta Osedion’s family, the escape is a devastating setback in their quest for justice. Nneji expressed frustration with the handling of the case, accusing both the Nigerian and Sierra Leonean police of incompetence and negligence. “They failed us,” she said. “My daughter’s killer is out there living freely, while we are left to suffer.”
Nnanyereugo’s case has drawn widespread attention since his arrest. After confessing to the murder in July 2023, he fled Nigeria, reportedly spending over $25,000 to obtain a Sierra Leonean passport and change his name to Kanu Princeton Samuel.
It is so sad that we in Sierra Leone are handling our passport in very reckless manner, now it’s in the hand’s of kind of hard core criminals from drug kingpins to killer s t’s a shame
The is really regrettable. Selling passport to foreign criminals
Welcome to sierra leone where everything is possible.
