The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone [ECSL], led by the Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman, Edmond Alpha, paid a courtesy visit to Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) at its temporary office in Freetown.

The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration and build a productive working relationship between the two institutions in national development, data management, and institutional cooperation.

Present at the meeting were the Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman, Edmond Alpha; the ECSL Commissioner for the Northern Region, Abu Bakarr Koroma; the ECSL Commissioner for the Eastern Region, Alex Saffa; the Statistician General of Stats SL, Andrew Bob Johnny, and members of the management of Stats SL.

In his remarks during the courtesy visit, Edmond Alpha expressed appreciation to Stats SL for its continued collaboration and partnership with ECSL. He underscored the importance of credible statistical data in promoting democracy, transparency, and effective electoral management, noting that ECSL relies heavily on accurate demographic information for electoral planning, boundary delimitation, voter registration, polling station distribution, logistics, and electoral forecasting.

The Chief Electoral Commissioner further called for strengthened cooperation between ECSL and Stats SL through regular coordination meetings, review of existing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), and technical training exchanges for staff of both institutions.

Responding on behalf of Stats SL, the Statistician-General, Andrew Bob Johnny, welcomed the ECSL delegation and expressed appreciation for the visit and the strong partnership shared between the two institutions.
He emphasised the critical role of credible statistical data in supporting national development, policy formulation, and effective electoral management. He reaffirmed Stats SL’s commitment to providing accurate demographic data to support ECSL’s operations and highlighted the importance of continued collaboration, technical engagement, and knowledge sharing between the two institutions.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both institutions reaffirming their commitment to sustained partnership and cooperation in advancing national development and strengthening democratic governance in Sierra Leone
