The Embassies and High Commissions of Germany, Ghana, Iceland, Ireland, Nigeria, and the United Kingdom have welcomed a press statement issued by the ECOWAS–UNOWAS–Commonwealth (International Moral Guarantors) Joint Assessment Mission to Sierra Leone following its visit on 20 April 2026.
In a joint statement, the diplomatic missions commended the Government of Sierra Leone, the All People’s Congress (APC), and other stakeholders for agreeing to advance the implementation of the Agreement for National Unity and the Tripartite Committee Recommendations.
The embassies noted that the commitments made represent a step toward strengthening national institutions and improving confidence in Sierra Leone’s democratic processes. They also urged all parties to implement the eight-point agreement within the agreed timelines, stressing the importance of timely action to reduce political uncertainty.
Reaffirming their support, the missions described themselves as partners in Sierra Leone’s democratic and development efforts, and pledged continued assistance aimed at promoting inclusive governance, peace, and prosperity.
They emphasized the need for sustained cooperation between government institutions, political parties, civil society, and international partners to ensure that the agreement and related recommendations are translated into practical reforms.
The statement further called on political leaders and institutions to maintain dialogue and ensure full implementation of the agreed measures, noting that progress would remain under international observation.
The joint statement concluded with a renewed commitment to Sierra Leone’s long-term stability and development, and a call for all stakeholders to prioritize national interest in advancing peace and democratic consolidation.
