The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Sierra Leone, Alhaji Musa Timothy Kabba, is presiding over the ECOWAS Council of Ministers’ meeting in Accra, Ghana.

The meeting focused on the Ad Hoc Ministerial Committee responsible for the selection and performance evaluation of statutory appointees of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Minister Kabba, who currently serves as Chair of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers, led the three-day session during which candidates for key statutory positions within the ECOWAS Commission were interviewed. The appointments are expected to shape the leadership of the regional body over the next four years.

In his remarks, Minister Kabba said the work undertaken by the Council in Accra goes to the heart of the Community’s future.

He commended participants for their commitment, diligence, and seriousness in carrying out what he described as an important responsibility.

“Over the past days, we have engaged in a process that goes to the very heart of our community’s future. This is a testament to our shared commitment to the long-term credibility and effectiveness of ECOWAS,” he stated.

He added that those selected would be required to navigate a complex and evolving regional environment, strengthen regional integration, and deliver tangible results for the people of West Africa.

“We must continue to support them while holding them to the highest standards of performance and accountability,” he added.

Minister Kabba concluded by stressing that the exercise was not merely about filling positions, but about making deliberate and consequential choices regarding the institution’s leadership.

The positions interviewed for included Vice President, Commissioners, Auditor General, and Directors of ECOWAS institutions.
