Minister of Social Welfare Melrose Karminty celebrated the discharge and rehabilitation of forty (40) former Kush addicts on April 21st, 2024.

The Minister led them to a service at Winners Chapel International, where they were introduced as new ambassadors in the fight against drug and substance abuse.

Karminty emphasized the importance of faith in overcoming addiction, stating that “only God must take the praise” for the success of the rehabilitation program. She urged the recovering addicts not to return to their past, which would be harmful to themselves and the country.

The Minister acknowledged the global struggle against drug abuse, stating that “this challenge is not only experienced in Sierra Leone but in other countries as well.” She expressed her appreciation to the leadership of Winners Chapel for providing a platform for the former addicts to share their experiences and give thanks for their newfound freedom.

The discharged addicts reportedly felt a strong sense of duty to share their testimonies and inspire others. They credited God for their transformation and their commitment to becoming agents of change in the fight against drug abuse.
