Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has officially launched the second round of the Bloomberg Freetown Youth Climate Action Fund. This initiative positions Freetown among 100 cities from 38 countries worldwide that are qualified for the prestigious fund.

The announcement was made during the opening phase of the competition, where Aki-Sawyerr encouraged youths aged between 15 and 24 in Freetown to submit proposals for grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.

These grants are aimed at supporting youth-led environmental conservation and mitigation projects within the city.

At the event, successful participants from the first round of the Bloomberg Freetown Youth Climate Fund shared insights about the projects they implemented last year. They described their experiences as encouraging, noting that the initial grants have already begun delivering impactful climate solutions to local communities.

The Bloomberg Youth Climate Action Fund is a global initiative designed to provide technical assistance and funding, empowering young individuals to develop and implement climate solutions tailored to their local contexts.
